26 April 2007: Hong Kong Round Table 10 has today agreed to purchase a low-pressure hypobaric oxygen chamber, at a cost of HK$ 175,000, to give autistic children whose parents could not otherwise afford this internationally accepted and highly effective therapy, access to the treatment. The machine will be installed in the premises of an existing company providing the therapy, but will be available only to the children of families who have been means-tested to confirm that they can't afford private care. The machine is expected to treat up to 150 children a year. When combined with dietary controls, in which the parents will be coached while the child is in the chamber with a trained therapist, the LPHBO2 therapy is expected to vastly improve the children's co-ordination, gross motor skills, cognition, and behaviour.
RT10 has entered a team into the Four Peaks Race, 2008, with the aim of raising a total of HK$100,000 in this, our first year of entering the competition, through corporate sponsorships and individual donations.
The Four Peaks Race, to be held over the weekend of 26th and 27th January 2008, is a grueling, overnight event, which involves approximately 80 miles of coastal sailing coupled with climbing four of the highest peaks in Hong Kong.
For companies, sponsorship of the race is an innovative and fun way to demonstrate your commitment to the local community, as well as getting some worthwhile exposure in the press in Hong Kong and across Asia.
In April 2007, Round Table 10 agreed to support Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation (www.rehabsociety.org.hk) and Hong Kong Occupational Therapy Association (www.hkota.org.hk) in producing a short film to promote their services in support of mental health in the community. The video, which is to be shown at a variety of shopping centres, and on commercial television channels in Hong Kong looks like this:

Round Table is a charitable club which raises money for Hong Kong charities through a variety of fun events. The most visible of these events is the annual 24 hour Pedal Kart Grand Prix in which more than 30 teams from some of Hong Kong's biggest companies, as well as schools and clubs, compete with each other for a range of prizes including most money raised, best built kart, fastest kart, most number of laps - and so on.
Membership of round table is limited to men below the age of 45, as the founder of Table in the early 20th century felt that excluding older members would make for a more dynamic club. The ladies' equivalent of Round Table is Ladies' Circle. Round Table has been running in Hong Kong for 28 years, and at it's peak in the early eighties there were ten tables, each with 20-30 members.
Today, Round Table in Hong Kong comprises three tables of like-minded young (ish!) men who meet once or twice a month to advance the club's objectives, namely: Raising money for charities, promoting international relations (up to 20% of Round Table 10's funds are available on application to worthy overseas charities), Helping out in the community through a range of initiatives typically aligned with the charities we support, and having a good time whilst doing all of the above!
